$15 – $20
December 18th, POLYRHYTHMS Third Sunday Jazz Workshop & Matinee Series Ushers in the Season with The Saul Lubaroff Quartet who will treat our ears to Jazz with a little other mix for the holiday season, as we continue settling in to our fresh home in Becherer Hall at Rivermont Collegiate, 1821 Sunset Drive, Bettendorf, IA. Polyrhythms demystifies jazz with a Workshop at 2 pm, followed by a Matinee Concert from 5 – 7 pm.
Saxophonist Lubaroff has been a mainstay on the Eastern Iowa music scene for over 35 years. Jazz is his first love, but he is equally comfortable playing, Pop, funk and blues. Saul is joined by Andy Parrott – guitar, Scott Barnum – bass, Paul Cunliffe – drums.
These players have a combined level of experience that is hard to duplicate. Each of these musicians have played in many of the area’s finest bands, including Orquesta alto maiz, Three dogs and a bone, Public Property, Shade of Blue and the Fez. Prepare your ears for a dose of originals that call on the great hard bop and classic jazz traditions, some arrangements of pop with the Quartet’s signature soul – while reverently celebrating the holiday season.
Saul Lubaroff began his musical journey when he was eight years old. In 7th grade, Saul’s love of jazz took over, and he added Saxophone to his list of weapons. He studied jazz improvisation from the time he was 13 years old, and was playing in big bands before he was old enough to drive a car. Excelling as a saxophonist, clarinetist and flautist, Saul stands as a great cog in the regional music scene. A private music instructor and adjudicator teaching woodwinds and jazz improvisation. Saul is also a music producer for KCCK jazz radio in Cedar Rapids, IA.
