MUSICGenre: Singer – Songwriter

Hometown: Northeast Iowa
Folk rocker Lissie grew up in Rock Island, Illinois. Fans first fell in love with her voice from her five-song EP Why You Runnin’, produced by Bill Reynolds of Band of Horses, which was ranked among the Eight Most Auspicious Musical Debuts by Paste. Lissie’s full- length debut, Catching A Tiger was released in 2010. Paste Magazine named her Best New Solo Artist, VH1 tapped her as a “You Oughta Know” artist and she received a Q Awards nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist. Scads of festival performances, tour dates, television appearances and film/TV song placements followed.
Lissie’s latest album Carving Canyons is her most personal expression yet, with twelve songs that chart the ripples caused by heartbreak. Carving Canyons is as deeply felt as Lissie’s music has ever been, with sumptuous production and indelible melodies that will surely stand the test of time.
Lissie and her band return Thursday, Aug. 17, to the Ellis Kell Band Shell at Schwiebert Riverfront Park in downtown Rock Island for the kickoff to Alternating Currents and the City of Rock Island’s Thursday Night Groove concert series. This marks the Rock Island native’s first performance on the riverfront since 2019. The 7 p.m. show is free, and food & beverages will be available for purchase at the park as well as downtown businesses before and after the show.
This Alternating Currents performance in downtown Rock Island is brought to you by the City of Rock Island, Rock Island Downtown Alliance, American Bank & Trust, Bent River Brewing Company and Rock Island Parks & Recreation.
ABOUT ALTERNATING CURRENTS
Alternating Currents festival was founded in 2017 by the Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP), a division of the Quad Cities Chamber. Now the event is powered by DDP and has expanded to include host downtowns Downtown Bettendorf Organization and Rock Island Downtown Alliance. The event is successful because of the many creative partners and businesses who come together to create an amazing experience for all. This year, AC’s Presenting Sponsors are Regional Development Authority (RDA) and Rhythm City Casino Resort. Programming support is provided by investments from Music Partner GreenState Credit Union and Arts Partner TBK Bank.
The Alternating Currents app is the best way to stay up to date with all the latest information and changes. Download the app to explore the festival’s lineup, get directions, and create your own unique experience. With the app, you’ll be able to make the most of your festival experience!
